How to Remain Disciplined and Focused

BLOG

“You will never always be motivated, so you must learn to be disciplined” – and that’s the tea.

Having become considerably more goal-driven over the past few months, it’s only right that I share a few gems on how I’ve personally become more disciplined, focused, and more grounded.

  1. Challenge yourself:

This is something I’ve started doing over the past few weeks – by making a challenge for myself and sticking at it. I did a skipping challenge for a week by starting small on day 1 and 2 with about 250 skips then increasing this daily by 100-150 skips. I made a goal that by the end of the week I will complete 800 skips in one go, which I did. And I’m also currently in the middle of a 30-day Yoga challenge I found on YouTube (Yoga with Kassandra).

This had a very positive impact on me, not only am I finding this exciting but it also helps me practice patience and enjoy the process. Whilst these are health challenges, the benefits are more than physical – the process of challenging yourself, sticking by something every day, and taking small steps daily is important in any aspect of your life. And any goal you have, whether it be health, business, spiritual, mental, or physical. I am continuously learning to practice patience and discipline.

There will be some days where you won’t feel as motivated, and some days the process seems slow or it may feel like you aren’t even getting anywhere at all. But discipline is what will push you to continue and trust the process. So challenge yourself, start small. It could be in anything but the skills you learn will be transferable in any part of your life or through whatever goal you may have.

  1. Reading books & researching:

Read books for fun, read books for information, motivation, and understanding – just read. It’s important, vital actually. So many of us stop reading books after education but you cannot put a price on knowledge and constant learning.

Researching – I research everything! Anything I want to learn or understand more or even change about myself but I don’t know how to go about it I seek information. We seek so much information about irrelevant things daily. But we have all these resources we need and Google is free. So why not research things that are conducive to your wellbeing, we all have things we want to discover, learn, or change about ourselves. So use what you have around you to do so.

  1. Meditation and prayer:

For me this is more about feeling spiritually grounded and connected to a higher being. I meditate and pray every morning for about 10 minutes, firstly expressing gratitude.

When it comes to meditation I’d say do a few minutes daily maybe 5, if you are not used to it, it can be difficult to silence your mind so start small. It is completely worth it and you will become more focused and find it easier to stay present.

  1. Manifestation:

I wrote down my goals, answered questions such as “where do I see myself in the next 5 years” “Who is Erykah Asia, and what does she do?” “Who do I want to inspire?” and more – I recorded this and I listen to this every morning during meditation.

This increases my discipline and focus – knowing I have a vision and goals means that every day I need to be doing something, anything that takes me a little step further towards my vision. Everything I do going forward needs to align with my core values, my vision, and my purpose.

  1. Taking breaks:

This one I kind of struggle with myself to be honest, as I’m always feeling like I constantly need to be doing something or putting in work towards my goals. I’ve even started feeling bad for taking a break. However, breaks are vital we all need to refresh our minds and reenergise. So don’t kill yourself! You need to take breaks and make time for self-care.
