Building from scratch

“You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings”

Elizabeth Gilbert.

The other day I saw a Tweet from this girl, she said, “Some of us are building from scratch. No inheritance, no connections, no backups. Just blood, sweat, and skills” And whew! I could relate!

It can be so frustrating when you are building your life from scratch. You feel like you are doing it alone, trying to create a successful life for yourself. This process can be a struggle.

Just like others, I work so hard to break cycles, generational curses, and to ensure my children never have to struggle in the ways that I had to. Therefore, I am working a 9-5 (I had been furloughed during lockdown though), trying to run and maintain my business as well as saving money and paying my bills. Don’t forget trying to look after my health, exercise, and make time for leisure. This has been difficult and overwhelming. And there are times where I have even felt bitter because my family have not made it easier at all.

I have felt this frustration on multiple occasions and still do from time to time. Sometimes certain things do not come easy to some of us. The cards we are dealt are completely different than others. The grind seems harder, people look like they have been able to take short cuts, easier routes, or even get a head start. Whilst some of us have to take the long way to our destinations and sometimes when we take two steps forward we are knocked back a couple steps.

Honestly, I wanted to write this post because I felt this way today. I have never really had it easy nor did my parents set me and my siblings up for a head start in life. Every day it’s a grind, blood, sweat, and tears. But through the setbacks I keep it moving and remain optimistic. Every time a setback or obstacle occurs (once I am out of my feelings) I often like to see things this way: This will be part of my story one day.

When you have finally reached your destination and accomplished high levels of success, you will have a story to tell. It never came easy, you had multiple setbacks, you had to build from scratch. On top of that, you felt defeated and frustrated along the way. But you never stopped, you never gave up. How amazing is that? To know after everything you have gone through, you have a story to share, motivate and inspire others with.

There is always going to be someone who is facing the same struggle you overcame or the generations below you needing that encouragement to keep going. So I know it is overwhelming, but remember it will be all part of your story.

Keep going! Especially if there is nothing to fall back on. Push yourself through your hardest times. Continue to build and create the life you deserve.

Thank you for reading.
