Give It To God

What do you do when you feel like you can’t handle life?

Well, first, you give it to God. Then, you remind yourself of your strength. We simply cannot deal with everything alone, even though we live in a society that likes to promote individuality (a trigger for anxiety, loneliness, depression, and sadness). Giving your burdens to God means letting God experience your difficult emotions, pain, and frustrations with you.

Last week I got into a car accident, nothing too serious, I was unharmed, but my car wasn’t. It was my first car accident since driving, and I was shaken up and stressed out. I was nervous because I didn’t know how to navigate this situation alone (I didn’t come from a family who drove, so it was unfamiliar territory). I also started a new job that week which required me to do presentations and to top it off, I had a stomach infection. I was going through it. This was of course a lot to deal with, so I experienced heightened anxiety. One of the nights I had a panic attack about starting the week and how I was to manage everything. My load was feeling heavy, so I decided to give it to God, I did this through silent prayer, asking God to provide me with the ability to handle my responsibilities head-on, but I am also blessed to have people around me to support me. Giving it to God also meant allowing my loved ones to help me deal with the situation.

I share this to remind you that when life feels overwhelming, let it out. Don’t stop yourself from crying because you want to give the illusion that you are strong and unbothered. The release does the body good. Most importantly, give it to God – you decide how that looks like to you. Pray, speak to God, write, and ask God for the strength, confidence, guidance, and ability to deal with life’s hardships. You will not be ignored. Remember to remind yourself of your strength, tell yourself that you can handle life, remind yourself enough times until you convince yourself and then you can take action.
